Here is an essay written, by commission, for the centenary of the Revue d’Histoire Ecclésiastique.

JAK Religious freedom & confessional state

  1. Reverend and Dear Father,

Thank you very much for making “Religious Freedom and the Confessional State” available to us. One thing troubles me, however; I hope that this doesn’t make me sound scrupulous, but: Was the publication of the list of propositions in footnote 37 (page 10) authorised?

    Yours faithfully,

    • I got the text of the ten propositions from a printed source. I do not know whether that publication was authorized, although I suspect not. Why do you ask?

  2. Thank you for that response, Father.

    “Why do [I] ask?”

I am not familiar with the protocol for the publication of previously-unpublished Holy Office documents.
